Facial recognition based access control to play a significant role in curbing Coronavirus outbreak

With the onset of the year 2020, this evil in the name of coronavirus has gripped our hearts with fear and shook the entire world. The proliferation of this virus has wrecked global technology industries and has caused human interaction to hit a pause. Novel Coronavirus which initially showed up in China spread across the globe rapidly, victimizing a huge number of people. But alongside the outbreak of this zoonotic disease, the implementation of several AI-powered techs has begun, which can thankfully aid in resolving the critical issues we are facing today. According to a WHO report, AI and big data analytics have played an important role in China's response to the virus.

Could facial recognition be the answer?

With Facial recognition systems being adopted by several countries, it could be the savior to all those organizations who suffered a great loss due to the virus. A facial recognition system uses biometrics to map out the facial features of an individual from an image and then compares the data with the database of stored faces to find a match. This technology eliminates the requirement of unnecessary human contact in organizations by only requiring the face biometrics of the employee.

China has currently isolated around 50 million people in Wuhan and other cities with the use of WeChat and Alipay to monitor people's movement and prevent infected persons from traveling. The Government of China has also deployed several facial recognition and thermal sensors in drones and other places.

An artificial intelligence specializing company is currently working on creating an alert system, where users can get immediate information whenever an infected person comes in their proximity. IFSEC Global recognizes that these AI-powered graphs can track the virus's emigration all across china. These graph models are also being used by the Chinese Govt. to track infected individuals and provide medical facilities instantly. Another method adopted by the Chinese govt. is installing facial recognition thermometers in buses to detect symptoms of the coronavirus in the travelers.

Moscow has also deployed facial recognition technology for the coronavirus quarantine. The mayor of the Russian capital reported that they are using this technology to make sure that the affected people stay inside their homes to curb the dispersion of Covid-19.

Another efficient method to eliminate the need for human interaction is by incorporating palm vein scanners. This biometric-based Palm vein scanner is a next-gen product that recognizes the image of an individual's hand vein pattern and captures it. This technology facilitates a high level of security since it uses unparalleled features for identification.

With several technologies taking the back seat due to this acclaimed pandemic, technologies such as the facial recognition and palm vein scanners can be substituted for processes such as access control and attendance monitoring at schools and organizations.
